Roundup on the Frontier

Every cowboy knows the importance of gathering strength before the storm.

About Randy Salars

Welcome, friend! I’m Randy Salars, and I’m grateful you’ve stopped by.

I was born and raised in the rugged beauty of Silver City, New Mexico, a small town with deep roots in ranching and mining. Growing up, I spent countless hours on my Uncle Elmer’s Bar-D Ranch, where I got my first real taste of the cowboy way of life. From roundups to daily cowboy chores, those early years taught me the value of hard work, resilience, and respect for the land—lessons that have stuck with me ever since.

As I grew older, my path led me from the open plains to a life of service. I joined the United States Marine Corps (USMC), where I learned discipline, leadership, and a deeper appreciation for teamwork. After my time in the Marines, I found a new calling as the Director of a Rescue Mission, dedicating myself to helping others and making a difference in my community. I held that role with pride until my retirement in 2024.

These days, you’ll find me indulging in the simple pleasures of life. There’s nothing I enjoy more than heading to the hills, reconnecting with nature, and soaking in the peace that comes from being surrounded by God’s creation. Whether it’s hiking, exploring, or just reflecting on the journey that brought me here, those moments bring me back to my roots.

Through this website, I aim to share my love for cowboy poetry, stories of the Old West, and the traditions that shaped my life. It’s a celebration of the cowboy spirit, the wild frontier, and the enduring values that connect us to our past.

Thanks for joining me on this trail. I hope you’ll find inspiration, joy, and maybe even a little nostalgia as you explore the site.

Happy Trails,
Randy Salars
