The Mare’s Lament: Loss and Connection in the World of the Range

From Saddles to Success

The cowboy life teaches one lesson above all—hold the reins, and lead the way.

Beneath the vast and whispering skies,
A mare stands still where heartache lies.
Her mane, like shadows, drapes in grace,
A bond now lost, in this lonely space.

The prairie winds, they whisper low,
Of nights spent riding, the sun’s warm glow.
Yet now the barren earth feels wide,
For every stride, shes left to bide.

With memories held in aching sighs,
She sees his ghost where the lonesome dies.
Through sagebrush trails and starlit trails,
Their laughter chased the rolling gales.

But time moves on, and silence reigns,
In the cool dawn light, only she remains.
A song of sorrow in the meadows hum,
For love once fierce, now lost in the glum.
